The Alice Springs Steiner School Stage 2: Multipurpose rooms and administration
The second stage of the Alice Springs Steiner School development is a single building with multiple functions including office and administration, community kitchen, staff facilities, and adjoining flexible function rooms that can operate as classrooms, meeting rooms or community hall.
The building is sited at the entry to the school, facing east with views back across the school’s formal landscaping to the McDonnell Ranges.
There are two parts to this building. The area that incorporates offices, staff facilities and the community kitchen has been constructed using rammed earth with the local red soil. The large span multi-function rooms have been constructed using a steel portal structure, with heavily insulated steel clad walls and roof.
The building has substantial shaded outdoor areas which are used as gathering and casual social spaces during the day and for public events.
