Campbells Creek House
This house is constructed using tilt up straw bale panels. The land was highly disturbed by mining and bounded by a disused train track to the eastern boundary that contains the site and directs views to the north. The house has been designed to open to the north with views to the garden and the recently planted orchard. The main cooking, eating and living spaces connect to the northern garden and the outdoor room to the east. The thick straw bale walls frame long views of a borrowed landscape. The design incorporates display and storage for the clients extensive collection of pottery and antiques. The house provides its own electricity and water with a 6Kw grid connect PV system and rain water collection for domestic and garden use. The house has been designed for bushfire attack level BAL 29. The material pallet includes polished concrete slab, tilt up straw bale with lime based render, raw compressed fibre cement sheet and radial sawn silver top ash cladding.
