Castlemaine House 3
The house is located on the northern edge of the residential grid of Castlemaine in Central Victoria. The site is distinguished by the presence of mature red box eucalypts, remnant native vegetation in the north of the site and a steep south-west facing slope. The house is sited on the rise in the south-east corner to maximize the winter sun opportunity to the living areas. The āLā shape plan provides a sheltered private north terrace accessed from the dining and living areas. The elevated position provides longer views to the west and north-west. The main bedroom takes advantage of its northerly aspect with more enclosed and intimate views to the existing remnant vegetation on the site. Pergolas to the north and external sliding shutters on west facing windows are employed for summer sun control.
