The Institute for Aboriginal Development
The Institute for Aboriginal Development (IAD) is a community based provider of adult education courses committed to self determination for Aboriginal people. The design brief included classrooms, library, language centre and common room. The planning strategy is a response to the local climate, cultural considerations and the long narrow, north to south, site. The concept design is centred on an external walkway running parallel to the Todd River forming a circulation spine for the campus connecting teaching departments with administrative and student support facilities. Openings between buildings allow long views from the interior of the site to the Todd River and the MacDonnell Ranges beyond.
